DeLonghi BAR32 Espresso Maker January 1, 2009 Lawrence Portouw (Whetstone, AZ) I've had this unit for about two weeks, and it works extremely well for the price. I've had trouble getting an even double pull into two cups. Tamping the puck more tightly and carefully (even) seems to minimize the problem. This machine makes great espresso. I don't think you can beat it for the price.
Cool retro look and easy to use. December 27, 2008 Hello Kitty Ellen (Appleton, WI) This is my 3rd espresso machine as they tend to go kaput after a year or two. This is the best one I've purchased so far. I love how cute it looks, and I'm glad it isn't as heavy and big as my last one (a Starbucks Barista one). The water container is just the right size. It's a medium size, and fits on the back of the machine so you just grab it and fill it (with the Barista machine it was behind the espresso filter thing with the handle, so you always had to take this off first). It also warms up easily. Just switch the knob and wait for the light to turn on. This is my 1st pump-driven machine (as opposed to the cheaper steam-driven ones) and it makes a crema which is a caramel-colored foam on top of the espresso shots. It's like a little bit of cappucino foam without using the frother. In fact, I don't think I will use the frother on this machine as it has a big plastic piece which looks like it would get clogged with milk and be tough to clean (another reviewer said he took the plastic part off and just used the metal wand by itself which I might try). As it is, I normally just add a dash of milk and some sugar to the espresso, which turns out like a strong-flavored coffee. If you love the taste of Starbucks drinks, that's the espresso flavor you will get. Just buy any brand of dark roasted coffee beans and grind them in a little electric grinder to espresso/extra fine and you'll get a great tasting cup! So you know, the photo shows 2 mini espresso cups, but you can fit normal American-style (big!) coffee mugs in it (my biggest, oversize coffee mugs are too big, though).
Easy to use December 16, 2008 P. Yurkovich (Chandler, AZ) I bought this machine so I could stop spending so much money buying lattes every morning. It's pretty easy to use once you figure it out but takes some practice to pack the grounds. The steam wand seems a little short and I needed to get a stout pitcher for frothing. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase.
Great Product for the price December 16, 2008 Matthew J. Mayes I bought this product as a gift for my father. He has some friends who has expensive espresso makers and he wanted one, but I wasn't going to spend over $1000 for his first one. I gave it to him and within the first week he had used it at a minimum 20 times. This is a great machine for the price and makes a great espresso. He also got compliments from his friends who have expensive espresso makers. If you are hesitant on what to buy you can have some assurance that this is a good product.
Great Espresso Maker November 3, 2008 L. Blanc (Arlington, TX) I went from a steam driven espresso machine to this one and the difference is like night and day. I'd highly recommend this machine because one, it doesn't really take all that long to heat the water and two the steam wand works great. I'd recommend getting something to set the machine on though that raises it a bit - it's a little difficult getting the frothing pitcher under the steam wand if you don't. It is a little noisy, but remember it's pump driven and it won't take you more than a few minutes to make a great mocha (my personal favorite). Highly recommended.
